The fly shop has new shop girls! Saila and Leah joined the team at Elk River Guiding Company and have been working hard since the beginning of the season. They have been getting the shop organized and patiently serving the morning rush of guides, guests, filling out licenses and picking out the day’s top fly picks.
I decided that Saturday would be a good day to steal them away from the shop and hit the river for some girly fishing time. My best buddy and long time fishing partner Heather also joined on the day’s adventure and followed in another boat.
We put on at Fernie boat launch shortly after lunch and fishing picked up as the water warmed up…..
The water levels dropped again yesterday and we were finding the fish tight into the undercut banks.
Little log jams and bucket water also produced fish. Our flies of choice were Stimi’s….of various sizes and
colors! An orange stimi about a size 8 seemed to do the trick. We didn’t see any mayflies coming off yet……might just be a tad too cold. The water temperature was 8.C..still pretty chilly.
It was an adventurous day and it always is a blast floating the river with a group of girls!
Until next time; thanks again Heather, Leah and Saila for a great day on the river!
